Everyone’s chasing that most elusive of dreams long-lasting youth and look more youthful. Yes, there are creams, and gels, and procedures, and supplements that can keep you one step ahead of Father Time. But there are also some simple, natural, low-cost ways (and by low-cost we mean dirt cheap or free) to look more youthful.
Red, rough skin can age your face. To reduce inflammation and redness, head to your kitchen. A mixture of milk, which contains mild acids that slough off dead cells, as well as beneficial proteins, vitamins and minerals; and honey, which naturally preserves moisture, can reduce redness, hydrate your skin and give it a more youthful glow.
Got swollen, tired eyes? Dark circles can add years to your face. Grab some used (cool) teabags, squeeze them out,and place them on your eyes. Weird? Yes. Effective? Yes. The caffeine in tea is what reduces puffiness and swelling, so make sure you use caffeinated tea. The exception: chamomile tea, as chamomile is a natural anti-inflammatory agent.
Yellowing teeth are a sign of age. If you’re a regular coffee or wine drinker, you may be prematurely aging your smile. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to get white teeth. Brushing a paste made from equal parts baking soda and hydrogen peroxide onto your teeth once a week and leaving it on for a couple of minutes is a time-tested, safe and effective way to whiten them. It’s not as dramatically effective as professional whitening or over-the-counter whiteners, but it won’t give you that unnaturally white glow, either.
Vitamin C is essential to preserving your skin’s collagen. Collagen is the material that keeps your skin firm and holds it in place. There’s evidence that a diet rich in vitamin C can reduce wrinkles.
There’s a reason why premature skin aging is a symptom of diabetes. Scientists have determined that sugar binds with protein in your body to create a molecule that damages and even changes the nature of collagen in your skin, adding wrinkles and making it look dull. So curb your sweet tooth and cut sugar from your diet wherever you can.
Get in your eight glasses a day. Hydrating yourself internally will keep you hydrated externally as well. Hydrated skin is supple and firm, and has a youthful glow.
Cardio exercise is another way internal changes can produce healthy-looking skin. Exercise firms and tones your skin. In addition, the increased blood flow during exercise brings oxygen to every part of your body, including your skin, and the extra oxygen keeps your skin healthy, youthful and supple.
