Foods that will help you fall asleep quicker. If you have ever lied awake for hours on end at night you know that sometimes it can be difficult to go to sleep due to  things like stress, insomnia and more. Of course, there are countless sleeping aids on the market today that proclaim the ability to help you sleep quickly and peacefully, but oftentimes the sleep aids can be habit forming as well as filled with ingredients that can cause a host of problems that may be more trouble than they are worth. Dates fall asleep quicker

Everyone has heard about using a glass of warm milk to help you sleep at night and the reason for that is the L-tryprophan within it. However, L-tryprophan works best as a natural sleep aid when it is combined with carbs such as in dates. The carbs work in conjunction with the L-tryprophan to stimulate your insulin levels thereby lowering your amino acid levels and leaving more L-tryprophan in your body to ease you into a naturally sleepy state. Eating a handful of dates about 15 minutes before you head off to sleep can help to lull you into a peaceful sleep.

Cherries/Cherry Juice

In a study published in the European Journal of Nutrition it was found that people who drink or eat cherries twice a day are far more likely to get an extra twenty-five minutes of sleep each night because of the healthy levels of L-tryprophan in the fruit. The L-tryprophan from the cherries when ingested in the morning and the evening on a regular basis can help to regulate the serotonin and melatonin levels in the body which direct your sleep cycle. By regulating the sleep cycle better the cherries help to provide a more restful and relaxing state for your body to get the right amount of sleep that it needs each night.

Passionfruit Tea

Australia’s Monash University in Victoria found that when two groups of participants were given a cup of passionfruit tea and a cup of parsley tea respectively the group that drank a cup of passionfruit tea a day was more likely to sleep soundly through the night. The study’s researchers believed that the chemicals known as harman alkaloids played a big part in the results by influencing nervous system to promote a more restful and relaxing sleep state.
