Healthy eating foods habits can help you to live a longer, happier life, but sometimes it can be a little difficult to start off on the right path to eating healthier. Your eating habits are ingrained in you and they take a bit of working at to turn the tide of years of conditioning towards a healthier way of eating, but it isn’t impossible. There are certain things that you can do to help adopt healthier eating habits so that your body is healthy and happy for many years to come.
Processed food is loaded with junk ingredients such as HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) which can overload your body additives and sugar that decrease the healthy functioning of the body. Try to stick to foods that are as “natural” as possible or rather real foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts lean proteins, healthy grains, etc.
It is all too easy to not pay attention to how much food you are really consuming throughout the day. You would be surprised at how small snacks here and there can add up as you go about your day, ending up adding more calories and fat grams than you were really aware of. By keeping a log of all of the food that you eat you are better able to understand what your problem areas are in eating and devise ways to avoid those habits in the future.
All too often people who are trying to diet or “get healthy” believe that limiting their food to nearly the point of starvation is the answer… well it isn’t. When your body doesn’t get quite enough food it goes into starvation mode where it stores up all of the fat in anticipation of a long period where food is in short supply. This keeps you from achieving a more healthy weight, so set reasonable goals for your healthy diet.
A great deal of your daily food should be fruits and vegetables because they offer your body most of the nutrients it needs to not only function properly, but to give you the energy and stamina to achieve an active lifestyle as well. Foods such as spinach, zucchini, tomatoes, kale, mushrooms and more are filled with fiber (which helps to keep you fuller, longer) and water (which keeps you healthy happy and hydrated).
